Organisers of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in association with the Entertainment Society of Goa had come up with a unique contest to involve film lovers in rating top 20 feature films of Indian cinema . There were about 1.9 million entries to the T 20 Films contest. .
Here’s India’s Top 20 films of all time (Majority hindi films) that resulted from collating of individual Top 20 lists of 10 young film directors and 10 film critics (each of their individual lists were given 1-20 points, the top rated film being given 20 and the bottom given 1, and all these lists were combined / points added up to arrive at the list:
- Meghe Dhaka Tara – Ritwik Ghatak (Bengali, 1960)
- Charulata – Satyajit Ray (Bengali, 1964)
- Pather Panchali – Satyajit Ray (Bengali, 1955)
- Sholay – Ramesh Sippy (Hindi, 1975)
