My plan was only to watch Raavanan last night. Not only because I would watch Vikram 100x over Abhi but also because from  the stills and promos it seemed obvious to me that Vikram would play the role subtle, better. Also early reviews  suggested that Vikram’s role in the Hindi version was nothing to write home about.  Well I can myself now confirm that is indeed the case as I decided  to also watch Raavan straight after.

Raavan compared

First of all, Raavanan/Raavan is clearly inspired from the Ramayana. Why Mani went around categorically denying this fact is beyond me. Anyway this is a film I had been looking forward to for a long time and I was not disappointed.

The film starts with the kidnap of Ragini by Veera. We are not told why but as the story goes on we are given information here and there to explain what is going on and there is also a flashback. I think this is one of the reasons audiences have complained that the 1st half feels choppy and abrupt. A few people who watched with me also complained that pace was too slow. I did not find it so.
Vikram is outstanding. A very convincing performance. He is unsurprisingly very natural and believable as Veera, Very comfortable in his surroundings and as man of the people who is loved, respected and feared. On the other hand,      (more…)

I was going to skip posting about this event since it is being covered extensively, but … I couldn’t help but notice how gorgeous and elegant the ladies were looking and decided to post some pics of them only. I really liked almost all the outfits…for once! and even the color themed fashion show had some great dresses on display. IIFA move over 🙂

Asin Interview June 3, 2010

Filed under: Interviews — filmizest @ 8:59 am

Asin is back in Chennai to shoot her new Tamil film Kaavalkkaran directed by Siddique with Vijay as the co-star. It is the remake of Bodyguard made by the same director in Malayalam with Dileep and Nayantara in the lead. It is after a long gap that she is acting in a Tamil film. She has also signed two Hindi films many months after her second film London Dreams flopped.

Asin talks to press  about life in Mumbai and her new films. Excerpts:

asin southscope

How has life been in Mumbai?

Life has been good. Mumbai has been great, and the city and the industry had been welcoming.

Did stardom in the Hindi industry, awards and the success of your first film Ghajini come as a surprise to you?

I was not expecting anything. So, there was no surprise or any such feeling. I only wanted the film to do well. Of course, Kalpana (in Ghajini) is a good character. Then there’s the fact that you are acting with Aamir Khan.

Everything put together, it worked and people liked the end product. People were quite welcoming and appreciative of the way I portrayed Kalpana.

After the stupendous success of Ghajini, London Dreams did not do well. Were you disappointed?

Not really. Each film has its own fate and you can’t go through personal emotions based on the highs and lows of a film. Acting is a career and you can’t expect everything to work out the way you want. One has to be mature enough to handle that.

Many actors and actresses sign a number of films after the success of their films but you chose not to sign any film other than London Dreams. Why is it so?
