I am satisfied, happy and at peace: Vijay
Sridevi Sreedhar  | Tuesday, 04 May , 2010, 13:47

Today, Vijay is an icon in his own right- millions of youngsters idolize him. All top producers, directors and heroines want to work with him and his persona gets bigger with each film. He has survived the highs and lows but remains the biggest phenomenon in Kollywood.

Vijay’s new release Sura has taken a bumper opening worldwide, though he is modest enough to agree with critics that it is another mass formula film. In this exclusive interview to Sridevi Sreedhar, he opens up.

What is your state of mind?

I am happy, at peace.

Sura has been torn by critics. There is always a negative talk about your films for the first three days of release. Does all this affect you?

It mattered to me a few years back but today I have crossed that stage. And bad reviews do not affect me or my film. It’s the audiences who decide the fate of a film not critics. Success or failures don’t matter to me. I take everything in my stride and move on. And I want to make a point to critics in general that they have all the right to point out mistakes in anybody’s films but not try to keep the audiences away from theatres as it affects the all-important 10 day business of any film.

aadhavan-10   press conf. today at Hotel Green Park, Chennai.

The worldwide gross box-office collections of Suriya’s films in the last five years, place the actor on a different level. He does every kind of cinema and is extremely versatile. He doesn’t want to be slotted in any image trap and if anyone had doubts about his pulling power at the box-office, Ayan silenced them all. Now the actor is tensed as a lot is riding on Aadhavan, his Diwali release has been sold at all areas for a rumoured Rs 40 crore, the highest in his career. In a brief chat with the media the Badshah of Box-office speaks.

Excerpts :

How was it working with KS Ravikumar, the director with the midas touch?

I was a bit tensed in the beginning and let me confess that it was my dream to work with him. He has directed all big stars like Rajikanth and Kamal Hassan and given so many blockbusters in Tamil. But after a few days of shooting, I started thoroughly enjoying and I learned so much from him. He is cool as cucumber. In fact, both of us are back with Aadhavan after giving super hits like Dasavatharam and Ayan.

Tell us about your producer Udayanidhi Stalin?

Uday is more like a friend and I have not seen a producer who is so involved with his film. His passion and commitment has to be seen to be believed. He was there throughout the shoot, even in the very cold Iceland and was a big support and seeing that we had no problem at any given point of time.

So what’s Aadhavan all about?         (Read More…)
